IOS developer: app from detailed spec and existing Swift source
Skippers Online is a UK online sailing school. Our lessons app, "Skippers Lessons", is finished and working on Android and Windows. We now need an experienced iOS developer to bring the iPhone/iPad version to the App Store. The code is already written. The Swift source for the iOS app has been written with Claude (Anthropic's AI) from a detailed technical handover, but it has not yet been compiled or run, because it was written without a Mac. Your job is to turn it into a working, published app. What the app does: - Students sign in with their Skippers Online account (or continue as a guest) - They download narrated HTML5 lessons (roughly 100-200 MB each) and play them offline - Access to each course is controlled by the server; lessons can be deleted to free space - Password reset happens inside the app What you'll receive: - The Swift source files (WKWebView, background URLSession downloads, Keychain, ZIPFoundation), iOS 17+, universal iPhone and iPad - The shared lesson-list screen (one HTML page, used unchanged by all our apps) - A 25-page handover document covering the design, the server calls and a full test checklist - The working Android app and source code for reference - The server side is complete and live: you won't need to change it Your job: - Set up the Xcode project from the supplied code and get it building - Fix whatever doesn't compile or doesn't behave correctly on a real iPhone and iPad - Test against the checklist (sign-in, guests, downloads in the background, offline playback, audio with the silent switch on, and so on) - Set up TestFlight, then take the app through App Store review to release, under our own Apple Developer account (you'll be added as a team member) Requirements: - Proven apps in the App Store; please include links - Experience with WKWebView, background downloads and App Store submission - Willing to work with existing code rather than rewrite it - UK-based or able to work UK hours is a plus How we'll maintain it: we intend to keep maintaining the app with Claude after handover, including Apple's yearly rebuild. So please keep it simple to pick up: plain Swift with as few third-party libraries as possible, clear comments, a README covering setup, build and release, and a build that runs from the command line (xcodebuild) as well as in Xcode. You're welcome to use AI tools such as Claude Code yourself. At the end we must receive the full Xcode project and source code; we own all rights to the work. In your proposal, please give: 1. A fixed price for getting the supplied code working and released, with your estimated timescale 2. The intention is not to copy the site, but to create something similarly simple and effective. The aim is deliberately minimalist: reassure visitors, provide enough information for them to understand the service, and then quickly and efficiently collect their details for us to contact them. We have recently launched a major rebuild of I Love Manchester, a busy city media and What's On website, and are looking for an experienced WordPress developer with strong Elementor Pro and GeoDirectory experience to help us iron out some post-launch issues and generally improve the look, feel and user experience. The site is already live and functioning. We need someone who understands the existing setup, can identify what is causing particular behaviours and make sensible improvements without creating unnecessary custom code or breaking other parts of the site. The current stack includes: - WordPress - Elementor Pro - GeoDirectory for Places/business listings - GeoDirectory Events for What's On/event listings - GeoDirectory Location Manager / location functionality - WooCommerce - MemberPress - Yoast SEO - Advanced Ads - Cloudflare - Imagify The overall idea is that each specialist plugin does what it is good at, with Elementor handling the presentation and templates, rather than trying to force everything through one theme. Some of the issues we currently need looking at: GeoDirectory / Places - Places currently only seem to appear on the relevant area or neighbourhood page when the location is manually tagged. We would expect the physical address/location data to drive this wherever possible. - Review the way Place category archives work. For example, Cafes & Coffee Shops currently sends users into GeoDirectory URLs such as /places/category/cafes-coffee/greater-manchester/manchester/. We want to make sure the structure and UX make sense. - A user has reported problems trying to submit/add a listing, so the complete front-end submission journey needs testing. - Review Places search and filters generally and suggest improvements. GeoDirectory Events / What's On - Existing formatting issue involving commas on event listings. - "Load More" isn't working on some Event search/archive results. - Event date display needs improving. It currently tends to show either "From [date]" or "Until [date]". For events with a defined run, we would like the start and end dates to be much clearer. - Some listings can give the impression that an event starts on a particular date and then continues indefinitely. We need sensible handling of end dates and recurring events. - Review event ordering, recurrence and archive/search behaviour generally. Search / UX - Our Explore search currently allows a user to select the type of venue in the first field, but selecting it can immediately trigger the search before they have had the chance to enter the area/location in the second field. - We want the overall Places and Events search experience to feel intuitive, particularly on mobile. - We'd welcome recommendations on anything else you notice that adds unnecessary friction. Performance We would also like somebody to review the implementation from a performance perspective, including: - Elementor output - GeoDirectory queries and widgets - Image sizing and optimisation - JPG/WebP/appropriate image formats rather than unnecessarily large PNG photographs - Imagify - Lazy loading - Caching - Cloudflare configuration - Compression - Static asset caching - Any obvious front-end bloat We are not expecting somebody to promise an arbitrary PageSpeed score.
