I love psychology, physics and dogs. Mostly dogs. I'm an avid reader and I write recreationally as well as professionally (having won several poetry and creative writing awards as a teenager).
I live in Lancaster (well, close to Lancaster in a little town called Slyne).
I've not always been freelance, I worked as the in-house Content and Marketing Executive for a few companies over the years (including Hangerworld, Mi-Flues, Fluestore, RedHot Glass, The Belvedere Blackpool and Jellymedia)
I wanted more than what I got working for companies long-term and exclusively. I wanted to help a broad range of companies (especially smaller ones), and use my talents and expertise to improve their content strategy. So I did it, I took the plunge and now here I am, sending you proposals day and night trying to realise the dream.
You probably want to know a little about my work history and experience then, right? Well alright, I suppose I should tell you (since you asked so nicely).
I started with an agency, writing for their trade magazine and working my way up to work with the clients (as well as running their own blogs and social media) on several different projects and campaigns.
After that, I moved on to a few different companies, (both B2B and B2C) handling their copywriting and marketing. I'm currently still working for my previous employer as a freelance copywriter. I have experience in campaign creation, social media, email marketing, marketing plans, SEO and data analysis.
My main focus lies within copywriting; it is my talent, my greatest passion and I use proven psychological knowledge and literary techniques to influence and persuade readers. Emotional resonance is key and I use it in everything I do, identifying a need the reader has and what emotion is attached to it, then invoking that emotion and using it to persuade and influence them. I take the brand style and existing tone of voice of a company to write content, always bearing in mind what they do and why they do it.
I have an English Language, English Literature and Psychology A level, all at grade A as well as a Degree in psychology.
I have a total of 6 years experience writing professionally and being a marketing executive, but I've been writing since I learned to write! I probably came out of the womb holding a pen, although I'm yet to confirm this.
