After completing university, I took a chance and left my whole life in Newcastle to go and follow my dream of living in the Galápagos Islands. I was content in Newcastle but I knew I could be happier and I always say you go after the life you want, or settle for the life you’ve got. I started a life out there. However, I started to get a few weird health symptoms in December 2022, but doctors dismissed it as anxiety as I was a 'young woman' and far from home. I was not listened to once even though all my blood results were abnormal and got worse very fast. I came back to visit family in the UK February last year (2023). I had left all my stuff in Galapagos and was due to fly out 2 weeks later. I collapsed within 6 hours of getting off the plane. I feel like my body gave up when it knew it was safe. They found a melon sized tumour engulfing my heart and lungs which was stage 4 blood cancer. I had just made it back with hours to spare and wasn’t even aware. The tumour was restricting my hearts blood flow. I feel I survived for a reason... I have spent 125 days in hospital receiving the most intense chemo known to man and have also written a book about it. I have been in remission since November. I have met so many young people whose cancer was found too late as it wasn't even considered due to their age. Doctors have told me youth cancer is on the increase and they think unhealthy lifestyles and processed foods might be to blame. I feel it my mission to stop this.... I now want to save some lives so I developing a workshop to deliver in schools/unis and colleges to to raise awareness about the symptoms to look out for. I am trying to put together an inspirational/emotional video which starts with me in Galapagos and then ends up with me in hospital with stage 4 cancer and then me in recovery getting my life back. All in all I would envision it might be 8 minutes long. After this I am going to talk about disease prevention and healthy living in the modern world.
