What is a freelance translator and what does a freelance translator do?

A freelance translator will use their knowledge and skills to translate copy into your preferred language. A freelance translator is able to work remotely and will often work on projects of any size, from single paragraphs to entire websites and reports. Translators apart from expertise in specific languages may also exhibit knowledge in dedicated industries.

Which languages are most in demand for translation?

English is the most widely spoken language in business and tops the list. English to Chinese translation and Chinese to English translation is also in high demand as there are nearly one billion Chinese, or Sino-Tibetan, speakers worldwide. Mandarin is the second-most popular language for internet users worldwide. Arabic translation, German translation, French translation, Italian translation, Spanish translation, Russian translation and Latin translation are also frequently requested services.

What should a business look for in a freelance translator?

When hiring a freelance translator, firstly, look for evidence of training and education. Secondly, request to see examples of a translator’s work and lastly look for excellent reviews of the freelancer. A new translator may be short on reviews and that shouldn’t rule them out but it’s worth paying more attention to their education and qualifications or asking them to complete a trial task.

What kind of translators are available at PeoplePerHour?

At PeoplePerHour there are hundreds of translators available for just about any project size and language translation pairing. There are English translators, French translators , Chinese translators, Arabic translators and even translators that specialise in less widely used languages such as Latin translation, Dutch translation and Welsh translation. As expected, the most popular task requested by businesses, is to translate to English.
