PAYE/Payroll Management
Looking for someone to help set up, run and manage payroll for my grandfathers direct payment agreement. We are currently awaiting HMRC to confirm his status, we are looking to move quick with this. It will be to manage payroll for 1 employee only and ensure all data is submitted to HMRC, send/generate payslips, deduct TAX/NI, RTIs, just essentially help manage payroll. Please note this is all completely new to us and we have never had to do anything like this before, could be short term or long term we aren't sure yet and want to see how well it runs. Our budget is £300 for the year but would like to be below this figure.
Salary Sacrifice Pension Advice
I would like to find the best way to make the most of sacrificing my salary to put more into my pension and go down a tax bracket. I am aware that the employer NI payments will be reduced and some employers are happy to pay the difference to the employee instead so how can I propose this to my employer so that they understand and agree to this? 1. How much of my salary will I need to sacrifice each month? 2. Will this impact my employer's pension contribution? 3. How much NI will my employer save? 4. If they give the NI savings to me will this need to go to my pension or my salary? 5. Is it worth it in tax savings? 6. What happens if I receive a bonus? Does this change my tax bracket? If someone could help me with the calculations then I can give this to my employer and state my case to see if they accept it and would consider this for other employees.
New accountant required for a small business
I have a small business that is comprised of one employee, myself. I have just sold a portion of the business, meaning out turnover will now drop below the VAT threshold. We are currently VAT registered. Your duties will include: 1. Firstly, you will need to contact HMRC, explain the drop in turnover and cancel our VAT registration. 2. I will submit every month our income and expenditure for the purpose of annual accounts. 3. You need to complete the annual accounts once a year. 4. You need to complete and submit the figs for my personal wages/dividend and inform me of how much tax/NI I need to pay, as and when its due. 5. Anything else I have missed above for the accounting of a small business. This is a simple business with very simple accounting needs. I have happy to keep the new accountant on a monthly retainer of £50 for as long as the business is trading.

Hi Over the past few years as far back as 2020/21, I personally financed contractor services (many thousands of pounds) for a mental health business I was trying to get off the ground. I was doing this whilst in employment and paying tax and NI contributions as normal. I never filed for self assessment as I generated no income outside my employed salary so didn't think i needed to. I have been advised that I may be entitled to tax rebates due to the fact of me incurring personal business costs and I require some advice about this. Initial set up info As is often the case for small businesses, the company has regularly paid its two Directors with a combination of salary and dividends - Salary at the maximum level above which Tax and NI becomes payable, and then the rest in dividends. Up until 2020/21 when the effects of Coronavirus has its impact, this had mostly worked smoothly as a way of paying Directors. Decision made last year - and implications In December 2021, the company completed its annual accounts for the 20/21 Tax Year (April 2020 - March 2021). In working out the Director’s remuneration part of this, it became clear that there had not been sufficient profits made by the business to pay what was expected to be allocated as dividends.These payments to the Directors (totalling £38,000) were therefore instead allocated as loans to the Directors (split roughly 50/50), which incurred a resulting Corporation Tax charge of £10,865.40, which the company is now paying in 8 monthly instalments. Decision to make this year After the end of the 2021/22 tax year, we have a similar decision to make. Based on initial calculations, it appears there will be a total of around £20,000 of payments made to Directors assumed to be dividends that cannot be allocated as such due to a lack of profits. Therefore these payments need to be allocated either as further loans when the annual accounts are submitted (presumably incurring a similar proportion as a corporation tax charge, due from January 2023), or some or all of them could be allocated retrospectively as additional PAYE income, which would likely incur immediate costs to both the individuals in tax and NI, and the company in Employers NI (as well as possibly a fine for late submission). Questions: Firstly we need to understand the detailed different implications of allocating some or all of the amount that was allocated as Dividends to Directors this year to either further loans to the Directors, or as PAYE (or some other option). The urgency comes as any decision that might mean amending PAYE totals for the year previous is now well after the usual deadline for those totals to be submitted. Secondly, and most importantly, we need to understand a bit more about the implications of the current (and potentially increasing) loans from the company to the two Directors - i.e.: Is the charge for increasing the loans the same amount and timing as starting them? (i.e. a percentage becomes due as Corporation Tax from the company, payable from Jan 2023) what happens if a loan is paid back in part or in full, what happens if it isn’t? What happens if a Director leaves the company? What happens if the company folds, or we decide to shut it down? Will it make a difference when this happens? (i.e. in near future, in 6 months, longer?) Any other scenarios worth considering?
