The role of the LifeBook Ghostwriter is to bring an author’s amazing stories to life in an autobiography creating a lasting family legacy, based on recorded interviews. An Interviewer records a series of weekly face to face interviews with the author over a six month period to help bring out the detail of the story, as well as the Author’s character. This material needs to be transcribed weekly and turned into book progress versions and gradually built into the final shape of the autobiography, using basic formatting and structures provided. To be successful, the Ghostwriter must creatively interpret the story whilst keeping the ‘true voice’ of the Author.
The role requires:
Commitment to transcribing material over 3 to 6 months of weekly interviews.
Excellent literary talents and a passion for writing, with a particular flair for creatively interpreting each interview and elevating it into something special, all the while maintaining the Author’s voice
Previous creative writing experience and/or some editorial skills
Excellent listening skills and great attention to detail
Typing skills and computer literacy are a must, particularly using web-based platforms and Microsoft Office and ideally previous experience with audio-transcription
An interest in social history and people stories, from the every day to the exceptional
A motivated self-starter with the ability to work to weekly deadlines
