Speed Improvements

Hope this message finds you well.

I wish to carry out some work on the website to drastically improve the speed my website is running at. Ive been told that there is javascript in the code, loading on various pages, however not being used at all, 500kb images in the background not being used, the way the code is loading is all over the place.

Additionally, we could do, gzip, caching (both magento + server) compression, reduce HTTP requests, minifying code, etc etc etc.

I would love a professionals point of view if you could help:
