Description
Experience Level: Expert
I am looking for Excel specialist to write me a script to match url addresses between two lists.
The situation is that we are upgrading our website to new CMS with SEF urls and a different menu structure. Consequently the urls of most of the pages will change and I need set up re-directs for our most popular pages, the number of which potentially runs into the thousands.
I have pasted a couple of examples of the old and new urls below (domain name removed). The one common factor between the urls is the title of the article, although there is no consistency in the number of other characters before or after the urls.
Example 1:
Old url: /index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=36803%3Acab-drivers-to-challenge-decision-to-grant-uber-15-month-licence-in-london&catid=61&Itemid=29
New url: /licensing/399-licensing-news/39074-cab-drivers-to-challenge-decision-to-grant-uber-15-month-licence-in-london
Example 2:
Old url: /index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=36765%3Alack-of-government-lawyers-delaying-preparations-for-council-merger&catid=59&Itemid=27
New url: /governance/396-governance-news/39063-lack-of-government-lawyers-delaying-preparations-for-council-merger
The results would need to be output as two columns of urls with each ‘matched’ pair of urls side-by-side.
Not all of the urls will be able to be matched, so the production of a list of ‘umatched’ urls would also be helpful.
Thanks
