Wordpress website needs tidying up

Our website take about 8 second to load. Our visitors are finding difficult to find the information, so we need to change the way display our courses description, and ideally add some calendar at the front page, as the only way to find out when the courses are taking place is through clicking to the course...
We also might have now too many plugins, so we might need to do some clearing,
