Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the business: media requests service
Kind of development: New program from scratch
Description of requirements/functionality: Hi there,
We are looking for a developer to work with us on a software project.
We launched our media request service in November last year to the UK market, with the aim of linking business owners with journalists, so that they could get PR/publicity for their company. Currently, its the larger businesses who get the best PR opportunities because they can afford to pay for a PR agency.
Our USP is that most smaller businesses (around 5 million in the UK) generally can't afford to use a PR agency, so miss out on valuable PR for their business. We want to give them a cost effective solution to find PR leads and also give the media/ journalists greater access to business owners without the need to go via a PR agency. Although we have found that smaller PR and digital agencies and freelancers are trialing and using our service too.
The service has been fairly well received but from feedback, we feel we need to make some adjustments to make it more competitive in our marketplace. Here is a link so you can have a look at our service www.pressplugs.co.uk
We would now like to move to the next phase of development, so that we can better compete with our main competitors, Journorequest - https://www.journorequests.com/ and Response Source -http://www.responsesource.com/
Currently, we send out one email per day (usually afternoon) to our subscribers and trialers, which is manually pulled together from searching for media opportunities via twitter, our website and via DM on our Twitter.
However, the nature of the media is such that its instant, fast paced and immediate, and this together with customer feedback suggests that we need to up our game to better compete, and offer a service which is fast, and immediate and gives users what they want - a current trialer has also suggested that a dashboard accessible by users would be good and maybe instant alerts to their mobile?!
Our competitors JournoRequest mostly pull their media requests from Twitter - here's a link to an article about how they work to give you some clarity -
https://henshallcentre.co.uk/whats-journorequests-all-about-interview-with-founder-ed-moyse
They offer a free service which goes out once a day at 3pm but they also offer a premium service which is a paid for service and includes instant alerts, sector specific, keyword searches etc.
Response Source are the market leader having been around for 20+ years and are the service used mostly by journalists and PR agencies, however they are quite expensive for the user. Their requests mostly come from journalists and they don't appear to pull any requests from Twitter.
We would like to increase our offering to better compete and maybe take the 'manual' element of it for ourselves (as we are only a small team), by automating what we do and then sending out media opportunities either instantly, daily, twice daily, keyword or sector specific or whatever our users want.
We therefore need an amazing developer who could tell us if all of this is possible, and also make other suggestions to make our product the best on the market!
Please get in touch if you think you can help us and also happy to hear your ideas, timescales, costs etc and of course, happy to answer any questions. Not a tech person, definitely more of a PR/media person, so just tell me what you need!
We see this as a discreet piece of development but would envisage a longer term arrangement with the right person, so we can continue to upgrade and adapt our offering.
Many thanks for listening (!) and I look forward to hearing from you.
Tracy.
