Hi
Trying to be as clear as possible here........
- I am using MS Money 2004/5 (vn 14)
- program always been fine until a recent crash, when I uninstalled and reinstalled it, from original purchased disk
- have always backed up to both a USB stick, and a Clickfree device.
- Can now not open any backup file at all in the newly reinstalled program
- MS Money forums recomend TOTALLY uninstalling by removing some registry files. I am not qualified nor confident enough to do so
- ALL pc and also the backup files have been routinely McAfee "Total Protection" full scanned throughout the years - nothing is found. Firewall is permanently on.
- Forums also advise there may be a conflict between the program ".mny" file; and the backup ".mbf". I cannot establish whether there is; and if so how to recover it.
-every time I start the (now empty but seemingly loading ok) program, it advises via pop up that "an update is available and I should log off and log on as administrator to update". I am the only person who has ever used the pc, and am the administrator!!
AIM
- to purge my whole pc of the program + all the unnecessary backup files (the program auto-backs up by default, and therefore throughout my attempts to recover (8/12/09 > current) it has continued to backup a currently-empty program!)
- reinstall the program as required
- ***recover the last full (8th December) backup; clean any glitches; and have up and running***
Please do not think me rude, but you will appreciate that the information here is sensitive.............my pc is fully functioning and works perfectly.........I am "happy" that there will either be a very simple solution and I am missing something....or someone well qualified will tell me in 5 minutes that the backup is not recoverable, for whatever reason.
Therefore my choice / not of any reply is entirely confidence-driven, and this in large part will be driven by your being able to display to my satisfaction that your area of expertise lies here.
If you are just someone who likes to "tinker" or "I think I might have an answer", please don't waste either of our times. No offence intended.
Thank you
Nigel
