Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are preparing to launch a new online platform which is dedicated to buying and selling bikes within New York City. We have custom coded and built the site and it's going to rock.
The site is an alternative to Craigslist (but specifically for bikes) and we will be launching in multiple cities across the US in the coming months, although New York is our initial launch.
The site, also showcases local New York Bike shops and their services, inventory etc. This allows the local bike shops to increase local awareness and increase sales of their current inventory of bikes via our platform.
We have thought about many different ways to approach the bike shops to introduce our site to them and had the following thoughts.....
We are going to run a Photo Competition targeted to college students in New York City and the idea is that we are looking for the perfect cover image for our site. Anyone can submit a photo for consideration which is intended to "Capture the feeling of biking in New York". The winning photo would receive a $150.00 in store credit at a local New York Bike shop of their choice, along with their name added to the image to be used on our site.
This competition gives us the perfect "In" to reach out to the local bike shops. The idea would be to have you and or your team make contact with the local bike shops (we have approx. 100 of them with full contact details), find out if they would like to be considered for the promotion (in other words, if their shop is selected by the winner, we would pay the shop the $150.00 and keep this on hand for the winner to use at their discretion). I don't see why any shops would say no to this.... It gives us a chance to introduce ourselves (briefly) and then allow us to follow up with a follow up email after you speak with them. This email can go into more detail about our online platform and provide them a link to claim their own business page on our site and start setting it up.
We have thought about cold emailing and or cold calling, however with the competition as a backdrop for the reason to call, it makes perfect sense and opens the door for continued communication. There really is no closing involved as far as I can see. Just a tactful, professional approach to open the door with potentially giving the shop $150.00 of additional business and increased exposure.
We would most likely run this competition for 6 consecutive months.
Time Zone for calling is EST (US Based).
Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to hearing back from you.
Simon
Thanks so much
Sincerely
Simon.
