Description
Experience Level: Expert
General information for the business: We make bespoke picture frames for customers
Description of requirements/functionality: The solution I need for all of my 6 staff, is to price picture framing jobs for customers, all at the same time. When a price for the order has been agreed, the order may consist of many picture frames, it should be saved into a database with a record of how much of the price has been paid. The customers should also be in the database, so we can track the history of their orders. Obviously passwords for all of the different staff members and backups of the data are required.
Each member of staff will have an iPad which they will use in front of the customer, so the GUI needs to be a slick as possible, using large format text and icons, so my staff do not have to peer at their screens when serving customers. For that reason, I would like as little information on the NEW ORDER and ORDER COLLECTION workflow screens as possible.
* Advice I need
I would like to have your opinion on the hardware I can use - I have a strong preference for Apple products
I would like your opinion on the architecture of the system to ensure speed during heavy usage of pricing.
* Description of the Jobs Database
The database shall consist of a list of records, each record representing a Job. The Job record shall consist of a list of fields that represent resources (mainly materials) and amounts and the cost of those resources required to make that Job.
Every Job will be a part of an Order. Orders may consist of many Jobs, or only one Job. Each Order is unique. Each Job is Unique.
Each record in the database can have several different statuses such as live, estimate, complete, in progress, replaced, cancelled.
* Customer Table
The database shall consist of a list of records, each record represents a customer.
Records of Customers shall consist of the normal fields for customer databases.
* What I already have
Most of the tables set out in Excel with the field names
Formula for the calculation of the price
Sample data for the tables
Ideas for the layout of the NEW ORDER and ORDER COLLECTION forms
I have descriptions of the workflows for the main 2 forms (see below)
I have descriptions of the 5 different reports I need
...and I have a dream for further development in the future if this goes well, but let's focus on this first!
* Deadline
The business will reopen it's doors at the end of September...so this is driving my deadline.
I will award the job at close of business on 6th September
First UAT should be possible on 19th September
Second UAT should be possible on 25th September
Final signoff should be by 29th September.
Specific technologies required: I assume that Filemaker Pro and Filemaker Server will be required
Extra notes: I WOULD BE HAPPY TO RECEIVE YOUR GUIDANCE ON PRICE! PLEASE ADVISE ME WHAT YOU THINK IS REQUIRED!
If there is anything about my project you don't like or that doesn't seem to make sense, please shout!!
I have lots of other information that will be useful for you to appreciate what is involved. I will share this will a shortlist of freelancers and allow a revision of price etc. I hope this works for you!

Can we see the Excel tables you have? It will make the amount of work required much clearer.
I think what is best here is a backend system running on a server doing most of the work, with lightweight app displaying the data.
It would also be useful to understand the reasoning behind your preference for Apple products.
