Collaborating with Selwyn on this project presented several challenges. As a junior .NET developer eager to "get involved," he showed enthusiasm but lacked respect for time management, expertise, and collaborative input.

During the project, I contributed extensively to the development of the .NET plugin and guided the API implementation. Despite my efforts, my contributions were not acknowledged, which was disappointing given the significance of the work involved. The final product consisted of over 7,000 lines of C# code, delivered within just four days to enable a client demo. This was a considerable achievement under tight deadlines.

However, the project management process was inefficient. Selwyn relied heavily on asynchronous communication via Loom videos and delayed feedback. While I consistently provided updates within a day, his responses often took 4 to 7 days. The delayed feedback cycles impeded progress and added unnecessary stress. Additionally, his videos often carried a passive-aggressive tone, which detracted from constructive dialogue.

Selwyn expressed concerns about the system being "unusable" yet continued to update and use it, which seemed contradictory. His remarks about issues preventing him from testing were largely attributable to his full-time job, side projects, and prioritization of work-life balance. For instance, if updates were sent on a Friday, feedback wouldn't arrive until the following Thursday. This stretched the project timeline to 40 days for what could have been completed in a couple of days.

This project highlights the challenges of working with less experienced developers who attempt to control key processes. Their inexperience can lead to inefficiencies, undervaluation of work, and wasted time. While Selwyn aspired to rapid progress, his practices did not align with these expectations.

In summary, while the technical outcome was achieved, the collaboration underscored the importance of clear communication, timely feedback, and respecting the expertise of team members.

WAs able to solve a complicated challenge on our Azure service and ASP.net code that a number of other developers couldn't quite fathom. That's a real mark of expertise, in my opinion.
