Bournemouth, GBUnfortunately Emma was not able to deliver on the project.
I was looking for someone to write a 1,500 word case study from a transcribed interview with a 2 day turn around. Emma won the job because she had promised a first draft the same day (the project was posted on Weds and the first draft was promised for that evening).
I received a message from her that night (shortly after midnight) saying:
"Just to keep you updated, its all written up, just need to read it through and add a couple of bits. Hope that is OK."
I replied saying that was fine, expecting the first draft shortly, but alas this did not happen.
The next message came at lunchtime on the Thursday reading:
"Written as first person, do you want this changing? I would presume so if it is for a case study?"
Again I replied, although at this point I began to suspect that in reality nothing had been written as yet, and that these message were stalling tactics so give her time to do the work.
My fears were confirmed when a bit later that day she sent me a further message:
"No problem just tidying it up, probably a bit long and a few changes. "
So still no case study, with the hard deadline fast approaching. At just after 1am she sent through the first draft. I was in bed, so didn't see it until Friday morning.
Unfortunately it looked more like a copy and paste job with some minor editing, and lacked any real clarity or flow. I sent her a message asking if she could edit by 12pm that day with some specific feedback.
She ignored my message, so when it got to 12pm I was forced to raise this with PPH to request a partial refund (she clearly had done some work, so I wanted to make sure she received some money for her time). The refund was given and I was forced to find someone else to do the case study for me.
Overall a pretty poor experience, and while I'm sure Emma is great at other sorts of copy writing, for more complex journalistic pieces I would avoid.
