Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
This is my second book. I self published the first book How Katie Pulled Boris (Google for website for the nice comments and press reviews.) It was successful but Diggory Press folded and I had aperiod of ill-health so I left it as a website PDF download of which there have been hundreds.
My second book about a six-month winter journey in a small campervan through France, Italy and particularly Sicily has languished because it is too long at 137,000 words and 376 pages of an 8x5 inch book.
Hence, it needs a critical edit to shorten it to around 280-300 pages as well as checking grammar and punctuation. There is some dialogue in Italian as well as place names etc so any skills in that area would be a bonus.)
I did wonder whether it was good enough so advertised for, and sent it out to a dozen or so critical readers who were unknown to me.
Comments ranged from:
'I LOVED it ! I started reading the book on the computer, at
11pm printed out 10 pages to read before I slept and, not long after,
crept back and fired up the computer again to print more. Next day I
printed the rest and finished it in one sitting, pausing only to eat.
You've got a perfect balance between travelogue, history book, guide
book and so much more. I'm an addict of the genre and I've read them all
so I can tell quality when I see it. It hooked me from the first page.'
I took thebook to my reading group. I wanted to be sure that my reasons for
enjoying it so much were not because I am a motorhome owner/ have
travelled in Italy and so on. Among the members of my group who read it
were friends who believe that if God had intended us to camp he'd not
have invented cruise ships and hotels, others who only read fiction as
well as another motorhome owner. I asked them to read the first chapter
and, with no clue as to my opinion, their comments were " I must finish
this"......" Can I borrow his other book" ..... Let me know when it's
published"...." That's a stonking good start"...and "He makes me want
to grab my passport and go...." Lots of laughter too as they read on as
well as " I didn't know that" and " that's interesting" A definite hit.

'The anecdotes and travel notes were interesting and often very amusing. However I did not get the feeling of involvement that I expected.
In retrospect this may be a result of reading too many of this type of book and not a fair comment.
I find your writing style easy to read and enjoy the varied vocabulary and devices employed; it certainly flows, but eventually the episodic nature of it became a bit repetitive (for me).'
Interestingly women liked it better than men.
So, I need a critical editor to cut out the unnecessary and make this shorter and more interesting read.
Everything can be done by email. Currently it is a Word document (sized 8.5 x 5.5) but can be changed. I would like it returned in that format with the changes incorprated.
