Description
This is made more difficult because there are lots of proper nouns including people and place names – he was a London cabbie.
I need someone who can understand his accent and type it for me. I don't need my word (the northern accent doing the interviewing!). Because of the nature of the work, it is likely that only a UK freelancer will be able to help.
I've tried to price fairly but may consider a slightly higher fee if I can be sure the person applying is capable of the job and feels this is not enough.
**EDIT – Thanks to all who pointed out that the budget is far too low, some politely and others quite abruptly! I acknowledge I greatly underestimated the work involved and am currently considering the higher bids I received and hope to work with one or more freelancers. I was guided by the PPH form I filled in, which suggested £75 as expert rate, so those who seemed quite angry with me should take it up with them, as they're not helping people in my position. Thanks again to all **
Michael M.

I have worked with a lot of audio and video files -- usually, am hour of file takes about 5 to 6 hours to transcribe. My standing record is 1.5 hours in 2 days on average with the easiest file somewhere around 2.5 hours in 3 days. This being said, the output is exemplary. My training is with BluRay for movies and cable TV show. Emmerdale was one of my accounts as well as House, The Doctors and a few mainstream Hollywood movies. To be able to do this within a week, that will be around $230 (plus PPH fees); I charge $30 per audio hour (minimum). If you can provide at least 5-10 seconds of the file as sample, it will help us bidders to determine if we can deliver quality output as well as analyze the difficulty of the accent. Thank you for this opportunity.

Agree with all of the above comments, depending on typing speed, you are looking at a minimum on 3.5 hours or more per audio hour, making this rate very low, in fact, it's a complete insult, as someone else has stated, so I really a not sure what you did in order to "price this fairly". Transcribing is a very skilled job, not just someone who can listen and type. Perhaps edit the post and change the price to something a bit more realistic, like 80p+ per audio hour?

It's nowhere near enough, Michael. It's an insult. You're offering 23p per minute. Standard rate would be £1 a minute so you are way off. This will take a skilled transcriber at least 18 hours of work and that is WORK not sitting around talking to people. It really does take that long. So you are offering a little over £5.50 an hour not taking into account PPH fees. Minimum wage is better than that and yet the number of people who can do this work is very limited. I don't think you realise how difficult and skilled this type of work is.

Hello Michael
May I have a listen to a short part of the interview?

Can you please share a sample first for us to identify the difficulty

Hi Michael, is £100 the budget for all 7 hours 20 mins of audio?
-
Please may you clarify, that the fixed price of £100 is for all 7 hours and 20 minutes of audio to be transcribed? this is for around 30 hours worth of skilled work. I am not sure how this is priced fairly.

Do you realise its 5 + hours work per hour of audio? So this equates to net £2 an hour.
