Description
Experience Level: Entry
We’re looking for a writer to produce research-focused reports for our blog: explodingtopics.com/blog.
We call these “reports” because they’re not your typical blog posts. Most blog posts contain fluff, filler and background information.
Instead, our reports are 90%+ data and examples.
Before applying, please read some of our recent posts to get an idea of the type of writing we’re looking for.
About Us:
Exploding Topics is a fast-growing startup that helps people find trending topics before they take off.
But we’re probably best known for our flagship weekly newsletter, Exploding Topics Tuesday. Forward-thinking companies like Slack, Apple, Casper, and Shopify read our newsletter each week to see what’s coming around the corner.
And we recently launched a blog.
That’s where you come in: we need a writer to help us craft world-class content for our blog.
What’s In It For You:
-Be part of a fast-growing online startup
-Learn about fast-growing trends in tech, fitness, fashion, software and more. Before anyone else.
-Do the best work of your career
-Publish content that gets read by top people at Slack, Apple, Andreessen Horowitz, Casper and other leading brands.
Job Description:
We're looking for a writer that can dive DEEP into a set of topics. And provide interesting data around those topics.
75% of this job is research. So we want to work with someone that’s comfortable spending most of their time researching.
Specifically, we will send you a topic (for example “healthcare trends”). You’ll be responsible for identifying 7-15 trends around that topic. Researching them. Finding lots of credible data. And writing a super dense report.
We'll of course help you every step of the way with guidelines and help.
Note how our blog content is mostly data and examples. That's the kind of density we're looking for. We look at context and descriptions as "necessarily evils" to be kept to a minimum. 90% of the report should be made up of data and examples.
What You’ll Do:
- In depth research of trends. 75%+ of this position is research
- Tying together a specific trend with a larger trend
- Outline, write, edit and super dense reports
What You’ll Bring:
- Knack for fluff-free crisp writing
- Significant market research experience
- Intimate knowledge of the tech space
- Experience with copywriting a huge plus
- Coachability and willingness to improve
- Willingness to go down the rabbit hole to research new fields and industries
- Upbeat “let’s do this!” startup attitude

-Link to the #1 best blog post you've written to date (can be Google Doc or on the web)
-Your rate for a full, 1500-2000 word report
