Description
Experience Level: Entry
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a proofreader/editor on an ongoing basis.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- You will need to edit and proof a variety of documents written between at 8th - 10th grade level American English. This will include fact checking in certain circumstances.
- You will need to be able to craft supplementary copy to support the article being edited / proofed.
- You'll need to help compile and refine a standard style guide that can be used to deliver a consistent tone and style to delivered pieces.
- (Optional) We need someone to help source content ideas that our writers can then accept and work with to produce new content. (At this point, for one weekly piece.)
DETAILS ON WORKLOAD
You'll be reviewing various pieces on the following basis:
- One 600-800 word blog post a week
- One 1,500-2,000 word article a week
- One 1,500-2,000 word article a month
- One 1,500-2,000 word audio transcript a quarter (you'll receive the raw transcript and will have to clean it up)
- Various sales pieces and promotional pieces, some of which are very short (a few hundred words) and others that can reach 4,000-5,000 words.
- As time goes on, there is the potential for more work.
NOTES ON LOGISTICS AND COMPENSATION
- Based on past proofers / editors, we expect there will be 3-5 hours a week of work on average.
- We pay invoices monthly, paid by PayPay or credit card. (In Canada also e-transfer).
- All members of our team rely on the project management software called Monday.com and a time tracking software called Toggl.com to manage projects and keep track of the time associated with those projects.
ABOUT US
- Based in Vancouver, Canada, we're a virtual team of marketing folks spread out across Canada, the US and Europe.
- We work with various clients in the area of politics, economics and finance (both domestic and international). Although you don't need to have a great level of experience in this area, it would be valuable to have a decent understanding of the lingo. We're happy to train the right individual if you don't already have this experience.
NEXT STEPS
If interested in exploring whether there is a good fit here, please send over:
- Samples of your writing / editing work
- A cover letter addressed directly to me (Andrea), so that I can easily weed out the people who have sent in materials without bothering to read about the position.
If you're successful, we'll start with a small test project and see how we both like working together.
Thanks!
Andrea
