Description
Experience Level: Entry
I need a writer with a good understanding of gardening and wildlife to help us with a project for an initial five articles of 700-1200 words. If these are successful, there is the potential for additional, year-round articles on the subject.
This is a rough outline of the articles we're hoping you will produce, along with some ideas for the content - these ideas aren't fixed, must be items in there, just a flavour of the type of things we think our readers will want to read about.
Gardening brief
Five Articles of 700-1200 words
1. Tips for people who are new to gardening
Lots of people are getting into gardening as a result of the coronavirus lockdown. What things do they need to know? What kit is vital? What's a good place to start? What plants are easiest to plant and care for? What are the differences between growing flowers and growing your own veg. And so on.
2. Gardening in April
What things need to be done in the garden in April? What should you do if there are late frosts or even snow? How best to care for your lawn at this time of year.
3. Gardening in May
Summer is getting closer, what's next in the garden?
4. Gardening on a budget.
What are the best value plants and flowers to get the maximum effect in the garden? Are there any household items which can be re-purposed as garden tools to save money? What's the most cost-effective way to save water?
5. Wildlife-friendly gardening.
What are the best plants/flowers for bees, butterflies and other wildlife? How best to incorporate bird feed and water into the garden. Are there any plants or products to avoid? Is it a good idea to let a part of the garden 'go wild'?
