Outline & Structure: I would like to research and write about blue fin Tuna as a food product. I have just visited an island in Italy (Favignana) where in late 1800 they used to can blue fin tuna, it was the largest tuna canning facility in Europe and the tunas we re watched using an old arabic fishing technique called mattanza. Blue fin tuna is now almost extinct and it is a prized dish in most sushi restaurants. How did we go from such abundance to such scarcity of blue fin tuna?
Tuna used to be called the pig of the sea. Can this concept be researched a bit more?
Apparently in the 70s and 80s tuna used to be fished off the coast of US and Canada for recreational purposes and the meat use to be thrown away, I'd like to explore this and other methods that over fished blue fin and to almost extintion.
It would also be good to have a summary of that various varieties of tuna.
