Description

Experience Level: Intermediate
icanhire.com is a self service vehicle rental platform. Customers have the use of a range of vehicles parked locally that they access 24/7 via mobile phone. We launched in January 2011 and have grown to over 200 vehicles and over 8,000 active users in London. We plan to have 500 vehicles operational by the end of 2014.

We are now looking to engage with a number of PHP developers to take the platform even further.

Its important that we engage with developers who know their stuff. People who can bash out decent code quickly, effectively and with little/no bugs. We're moving very fast, and we need people working with us to do the same.

Of equal importance is having people on board who believe what we believe. We believe in creating efficiency, convenience and value. We believe in keeping things simple, flexible, available for all and acting fairly. We believe in treating people right and not being an ass. We believe in the culture of freelancing, co-working and flexible working in general. We believe all these things make the world a better place - yes, I just said that :)

On the foundation of these beliefs, we have built icanhire. At the time of writing, we're a small team of about 20 people, most of whom work flexibly from home. We envisage icanhire to be in a state of constant evolution; if we don't build upon our success, someone else will. We want our developers to feel a part of this. To help realise this, we have devised a Profit and Exit Share scheme whereby developers take a proportion of the annual earnings of the business. This share is in addition to being paid for time spent developing the system further.

You must be proficient with PHP/JS/MySQL and working with git. The git bit is important as we use it for version control and also deployment onto development and production servers. You will be expected to create feature branches and merge back into develop and resolve merge conflicts yourself (Don’t worry, we have a development wiki that details all this kind of stuff in detail).

Development Tasks and Features are posted onto a project management board and developers pick what they want to work on. We have a short development cycle with a new release every couple of weeks so we try to keep tasks and features succinct. Each task is assigned a budgeted time frame and how much we’re looking to pay for its completion. Payments are made though PPH.

Fitting with our belief of flexible working, developers are free to come and go as they please - our only strict requirement is that if you assign yourself to a task, please ensure you complete it within the budgeted time frame otherwise it really messes with our release schedule.

If you are interested in becoming one of our developers, please respond with a bit about yourself and why you want to work with us.

Many thanks.
