Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I need help resolving a compromised Joomla website, which the hosting company has restricted access to for security reasons.
I have been informed that the site has been compromised and there are a number of malicious files on the server (currently sending spam emails) that require cleaning and removing. Alongside this the website needs to be updated to the latest Joomla version for security reasons and checked that it is fully operational and secure with the hosting company.
For further information, please see below transcripts from the hosting company advising what is required to be actioned:

Hosting email 1.
There have been malicious files uploaded into your hosting space that have been allowing the sending of spam emails.
It appears that the files were uploaded via an outdated and insecure Joomla installation. You will need to ensure that all the files within the web space are part of the install and are exploit free.
I can allow access from both yours and your developers IP addresses. Just let us know theirs and I will allow access to the Joomla site. https://www.pipeten.com/ip/
The website was compromised and sending out spam emails and could potentially effect the visors to the site. We didn't only stop the site because of the sending of spam, but also to protect visitors to the infected pages.
Hosting email 2.
One example is the z20.php file in the domain folders root. There are plenty of others. You will need to get your web developer to check these for you.
The emails were being sent using scripts from randomised email addresses ending in @sexlog.com, attempting to trick the recipient to clicking a link to download files to their local machine.
Your Joomla version was released on the 6th March 2014 , there have been several security updates since then. There are malicious files in the root folder and checking the transfer logs, you can see the attempted and successful code injections. One example is attached (see attached file)
This email and issue all relates to scripts within your account sending spam emails.
IMPORTANT: Only proposals with fixed costs, a reply to the specific requirements and proven experience in this work will be read and accepted.
