Description
Experience Level: Expert
General information for the website: We provide software for management of highway infrastructure across much of the UK.
Description of requirements/features: Kaarbon Technology provide software for management of highway infrastructure across much of the UK. We are looking for a CSS styling developer to improve html reports from our cloud based asset management software. Applicants should be able to use CSS to style professional reports that will help raise the quality of our overall systems.
The cloud-based asset management system allows a user to enter position and inspection details of an asset positioned on a map in an Android/IOS app. They then upload the data and reports can be run. The reports are created using JQuery and other languages. We are looking for support to finalise the design of these reports using CSS.
The initial project will be used as a test bed for continued work on our other systems. You should allow adequate cost and timescales to meet the technical criteria below and show examples wherever possible of similar projects in your response.
Verbal conversations will be required so the developer should be fluent in English. Future work is very likely as we are continually improving and developing our systems.
For those shortlisted, a viewing account will be provided in order to understand the dynamics and process of the report generation. Interested parties should detail their timescale and fixed cost for this work.
Initial project – Trees
In this software the user enters information about trees that include species, dimensions, condition, comments and if any work is required. The inspection data from the app is uploaded to our servers and can then be viewed by the user within a web-based interface.
The tree inspection details can be automatically exported into a dynamic html report for the end user to give to customers. The report is automatically generated from within the system when the user defines a selection of trees to be exported. The current code takes user entered responses from the tree inspection and populates the relevant fields within the report. There are also user definable sections to the report to allow for contextual input. There is also an option for the user to define and add maps to the report. This is dynamic and is a key feature of the report so this facility must remain in the final code. Design improvements are detailed in the technical specification below.
Technical requirements:
• Reports must be consistent in their design and printability across all browsers and screen sizes including those, but not limited to:
o Google Chrome
o Mozilla Firefox
o Internet Explorer 9,10 &11
o Safari (Mac)
o Safari (iOS devices)
o Chrome app (iOS and Android devices)
o Firefox (iOS and Android devices)
Design
• A number of HTML examples of the current reporting are attached to highlight the dynamic fields and how they affect the report design. A PDF version of the report has also been enclosed to highlight this. NOTE: Any customer details within these reports are for reference only and should not be contacted under any circumstances.
• A sample of the html code for one example report is attached.
• We are specifically looking for better use of margins, white space removal and consistency between the different browsers and printers that a user may use.
• The form design should have specific control over page breaks to facilitate a more professional look and feel to the end report.
• The forcing of colour across printers should also be included wherever possible.
• Any suggestion would be welcome for design implementation of “User interactive sections” such as selectors, table layout and colourisation buttons, print buttons that can be managed through CSS without affecting the original javascript.
o Specifically adding a button to allow rows within the tree report table to be colour coded based on the Inspection Frequency, Estimated Duration, Tree Species & Age Class.
• Report to consist of a separate cover page followed by the tree inspection table and then the maps (Note: The “Add new detailed map.” button allows the user to add new dynamic map windows that are exported in the final report).
Footnotes
• We have our own team of developers so any coding must be produced in-line with our current html as this could impact the core of the system.
