Description
The aim is to develop a modern, subscription-based educational web platform for UK primary pupils and their parents.
The initial product will focus primarily on Years 3–6, with particular emphasis on Year 6 SATs.
The Platform
The proposed platform will have seven main areas:
Dashboard – overview of a child's learning, activity and recommended next steps
Learn – curriculum content organised by Year → Subject → Topic → Lesson
Practice – teacher-created interactive questions with automatic marking and explanations
Studio – searchable educational video library linked to curriculum topics
Insights – progress tracking and parent-friendly learning analytics
Ask TTT – AI-supported explanations and personalised practice
Papers – SATs papers, mark schemes and assessment resources
Parents will eventually be able to create accounts, add child profiles and monitor their children's learning and progress.
Content Management
A key requirement is an easy-to-use admin/content management system.
I need to be able to independently manage educational content including:
Year groups and subjects
Curriculum topics
Lessons
Questions and answers
Teacher explanations
Videos
Practice sets
Assessment resources
Routine educational content updates should not require developer involvement.
Who I'm Looking For
I am particularly interested in working with a UK-based freelance full-stack developer who is available for ongoing development work.
Relevant experience may include:
React / Next.js
TypeScript / JavaScript
Node.js or similar backend technologies
PostgreSQL or similar databases
User authentication
Subscription payment integration
API integration
AI/LLM integration
SaaS/dashboard development
Responsive web applications
Content management systems
Experience developing EdTech, SaaS, subscription or AI-enabled products would be particularly valuable.
I am open to recommendations regarding the exact technology stack.
Development Approach
I am not looking to build the entire platform at once.
The aim is to create a lean MVP and develop it incrementally through clearly defined milestones.
An indicative development roadmap is:
Stage 1: User accounts, child profiles, curriculum structure, admin system and initial dashboard
Stage 2: Learn and Studio
Stage 3: Question database, Practice and automatic marking
Stage 4: Progress tracking and Insights
Stage 5: Ask TTT and AI integration
Stage 6: Subscriptions, Papers and further development
I am open to recommendations regarding the order of development if there is a more efficient technical approach.
My initial development budget is approximately £1,000 per month, and I anticipate ongoing freelance development work over 6+ months, subject to progress and agreed milestones.
The scope of each milestone will therefore need to be realistic and agreed in advance.
What I Will Provide
I will provide the educational and product expertise, including:
UK primary curriculum knowledge
Educational content
Questions and answers
Video content
Product direction
User testing
Access to an existing audience for beta testing
I am looking for a developer who can complement this with the technical expertise required to turn the concept into a scalable web application.
Good communication is particularly important. I would like someone who is comfortable discussing ideas, suggesting improvements and explaining technical decisions clearly.
When Applying
Please include:
A brief introduction and where in the UK you are based.
Your experience developing SaaS, EdTech or similar web applications.
Your recommended technology stack for this project.
Your experience with subscription payments, authentication, databases and AI/LLM APIs.
Your hourly rate and approximate monthly availability.
What approximately £1,000 per month would realistically provide in development time.
What you would recommend building as the first MVP milestone.
Any challenges you can already identify with the proposed product.
Please avoid generic proposals. I am particularly interested in understanding how you would approach this specific project.
I am looking for a freelance developer who is available for ongoing development work over 6+ months, with the platform developed incrementally through agreed milestones.

Hi, would you consider working with a non-UK-based development team if we can provide strong UK working-hours overlap and ongoing availability, or is UK-based a firm requirement for this project?
-

-/ Should a parent account be able to manage multiple child profiles, and do you want children to have their own individual login/access or should all learning activity happen through the parent account?
-/ Which question formats should be supported in the first MVP phase (e.g., multiple choice, multiple answers, short answers, written responses, or teacher-created custom question types)?
-/ Will educational videos be hosted directly within the platform, or would you prefer integrating with an existing service such as YouTube/Vimeo while keeping the videos linked to curriculum topics?
-/Should it only provide explanations based on your approved educational content, or should it also generate personalised practice questions, learning recommendations, and revision support?
-/ What level of progress tracking is most important initially i.e. overall subject-level progress, topic-level performance, or detailed analysis down to individual questions and learning gaps?
-/ Should the MVP focus on providing downloadable SATs papers and resources, or should it include a full online assessment experience with timed tests, automatic marking, and performance reports?
