I’m Alex Willi, CEO of ecom GmbH, a dynamic e-commerce company based in Basel, Switzerland, focused on delivering innovative solutions through our platform, coversmart.ch. We’re seeking a skilled and strategic second Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join our team on an hourly contract basis via PeoplePerHour, working alongside our existing CTO to drive various CTO tasks and support our technical growth.

About the Role:

As our second CTO, you’ll take on an hourly contract to lead and manage a range of technical tasks critical to scaling our e-commerce platform. You’ll collaborate with our current CTO, Rob, to delegate development work, oversee technical projects, and ensure high-quality deliverables. This role requires strategic leadership and hands-on expertise to support our vision for global expansion and enhanced user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and delegate various CTO tasks, including resolving UI/UX issues (e.g., checkout misalignments, cookie banner overlaps) and integrating payment systems (e.g., Stripe, Coinbase Commerce, TWINT).
- Source, hire, and manage developers to execute tasks efficiently, utilizing platforms like PeoplePerHour.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, UK GDPR, PECR, and nFADP regulations for features like cookie notices.
- Address critical technical issues, such as mobile website optimization and Stripe webhook delivery problems.
- Drive strategic initiatives, including AI chatbot integration and TrustPilot implementation, to enhance user engagement.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to developers, fostering accountability and innovation.

Requirements

- Proven experience as a CTO or senior technical leader in an e-commerce or tech-driven environment.
- Strong technical expertise in web development (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, APIs) and familiarity with payment gateways (Stripe, Coinbase, TWINT).
- Excellent leadership and delegation skills, with experience managing development teams.
- Strategic mindset to align technical tasks with business goals, such as global e-commerce expansion.
- Proficiency with project management tools like Asana and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Knowledge of GDPR and compliance regulations is a plus.
- Availability to work remotely on an hourly contract via PeoplePerHour, with flexibility to collaborate with our Basel-based team.
