Css Class & PHP function for front end template

We use CS CART ecommerce for our store.

1 - I need to display the sort position of products within a category, on the front end of a single template. The compactlist.tpl

2 - I need to make the exploded diagram img sticky so that when customer scrolls through the parts, the image remains in view.

Example - within the category, if the part is at position 1, I need to prefix the front end template with that position number.

This is to allow me to show which parts are required from an exploded diagram
