Description
Experience Level: Expert
General information for the business: Packaging Manufacturer
Description of requirements/functionality: Essentially, you're implementing the algorithm described in this publication into python:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/228419999_Extended_Haessler_Heuristic_Algorithm_for_Cutting_Stock_Problem_a_Case_Study_in_Film_Industry
The finished code will be clean and very well commented, it will be at the stage where it can be supplied with input values in the form of lists with the aim to solve the issues detailed in the above publication.
The one difference between this use case and the one detailed in the publication is that in the case study the company has 1 set width as the mother roll. In this case there may be multiple mother rolls widths to select from.
Ideally it would be able to iterate through each mother roll width and provide ideal solutions/patterns for each width.
Please read the article in full before applying, thanks!
Extra notes: Bonus Module:
Ability to create visualisations such as this: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/cb/CuttingStock.gif/622px-CuttingStock.gif
