Our system consist of the following elements:

clients as a user front-end (utilize API functions)
back-end admin panel for administrative purposes (operates directly on DB structures)
Database structure is typically designed and modified internally, so there will be very limited requirement to act in this area. Initially, we will provide most of the SQL queries and help in understanding how business requirement translates to individual SQL statements. Typically, developer will have to:
modify existing or add new API functions
modify client-side scripts to utilize new API functions & functionalities (i.e. modify existing or add new pages/screen) – screen layout and design (i.e. static HTML) is typically provided however ability to create good HTML & corresponding CSS sheets will be an advantage
modify admin panel scripts (i.e. adding new screens/pages or modifying existing ones)
Contract details
We are looking for a 3-day/week commitment on average to start with (flexibility allowed & to be agreed) between 05/12/2011 and 03/02/2012 (this is also flexible). At this time, we are looking for a remote/home-based person, with your own environment set up. Communication is done primarily via e-mail, Skype and web systems so a reliable internet connection is essential.
This is a temporary and very flexible assignment with new requirements being scoped for about 25 days of work. There are ongoing requirements for system modification and maintenance so there are prospects for the right person for ongoing work in 2012 (also full time).
Selected applicants will be asked to complete a simple dummy exercise (it should take about 1-2 hours) which will touch various areas listed above. Please do not expect payment for completing this test. By completing this real-life exercise, you will learn what type of work will be required and it will also allow us quickly and efficiently screen candidates.
Application requirements
Significant volume of applications we receive for each job offer are long template-based essays promising absolutely anything you want for £0 or less, yet not including answers to basic questions we ask. It creates a lot of admin work, so please be aware that any application which does not include clear answers to the following questions will be rejected.
With your application please submit:
relevant details of your experience, sample work etc. - anything we should know to know you are the right person for this job
desired hourly rate
when can you start
indicate preferred weekly schedule (what days, morning or evening etc.)
details of unavailability during Xmas period
availability in February 2012 onward
Length: 2 months initially, with further 6+ months possible extension
