## What we have & what we want
The website has a custom user interface where the client can edit the front end easily — CKEditor (v 3.6) and maybe something custom built. The client sells articles and was able to edit his product catalogue in a user-friendly manner and add them to the different pages on website.
NOTE: Everything is in German.
All this used to work when the website ran on PHP 5.6. After the switch to PHP 7.2 the website was basically blank and an external developer made it run on PHP 7.2 again, but failed to make the custom stuff work:
### Things to fix
- CKEditor only works on the main page (see screenshot 1), not on any subpages
- All subpages are listed on a separate page, after pressing the "edit" icon there's only a blank pop-up (see screenshot 2).
- There's also a searchable product catalogue (see screenshot 3). Again, when pressing edit there should be a user-friendly way to edit the relevant MySQL database entry, but only a blank pop-up appears.
### Educated guess about the nature of the problem
I'm a FrontEnd guy (HTML/JS/CSS) with a love for shell scripting. I can work my way through customizing some PHP functions in WordPress, but this is beyond my skill level.
Here's what I think is happening:
There are 5 databases on the server. I took a short look at them in phpMyAdmin and it looks like 1 or 2 of them contain lists of products. This database might not be linked correctly anymore in the existing code — be it because the password changed in the meantime or it's PHP 5.6 code that doesn't work with 7.2 properly anymore or something along the lines. Could also be that two of the databases (the one from the website and the one with the articles) can't "talk with each other" anymore.
NOTE: the website is ~10 years old, the original developer doesn't exist anymore.
### You should have…
- … experience and the skill set to fix described above,
- … are comfortable within an outdated php environment that might be heavily customized,
- … and can handle php functions and variables in the codea that are named in German.
If you're a good fit, I'll send you the necessary credentials (ftp & mysql access) so you can take a closer look at the project. With this insight you should be able to…
- … tell me what's wrong, how severe the problem is and what you need to do to fix it
- … give an estimate how long this would take (not in real rush, but still I'd like to know)
- … make a realistic estimate and hand in your proposal offer.
