General information for the business: We ae a specialist management consulting business offering business continuity and information security advisory services to organisations mainly in the UK.
Kind of development: Customization of existing program
Description of requirements/functionality: We have developed a spreadsheet to an extent that it is now on the limits of operability - for example adding and removing columns in certain places is not possible due to resource restrictions, and the spreadheet is 9.5MB in size making portability probematic. There are hundreds of repeated formulas in the spreadsheet and these are not protected. As a consequence there is a high risk of corruption once the spreadsheet is handed over to a customer. It is also difficult to use on an ongoing basis.
In addition, some of our customers have expressed a desire for the data contained in the spreadsheet to be portable to other applications (such as ServiceNow).
An option may be to improve the efficiency of the spreadsheeet by changing the current formulas into VBA or macros. Alternatively it may be better to change the platform on which it resides (for example the information in the spreadsheet may be better developed as an MS Access database, or some sort of hybrid Excel/ Access presentation).
Specific technologies required: MS Excel, possibly VBA and MS Access
Extra notes: The project requires the current spreadsheet to be refined into a more user-friendly, stable and adaptable platform. This will require consideration of alternative applications and making recommendations before begining coding to ensure that the data is presented in the best possible and most transferable manner.
In developing the tool it will be necessary to create supporting documentation and training, such that the tool can be updated and used by Jermyn staff in the future.
The project requires a fully proven, operational tool that can be easily rolled out. The tool must be user-friendly and adaptable to fit the specific requirements of Jermyn Consulting and its customers. The data outputs must be portable across platforms to be used for input into other databases if required by the customer.
An example of the current spreadsheet will be provided once initial proposals are assessed.
