Description
Experience Level: Entry
Estimated project duration: Not sure
betfair have an api which can be used to read information about various markets (football, horse racing etc.), for retrieving form data (e.g. horse form, football club recent form), for placing bets, for checking results, checking your balance etc.
For my own personal use, I would like to create a simple python script which can place stakes on various events. I am new to python, but I do have experience with other languages and scripts.
Online help for the betfair api seems sketchy to me, but you can find some information here: https://docs.developer.betfair.com/display/1smk3cen4v3lu3yomq5qye0ni/Getting+Started
and I found this page very useful: https://towardsdatascience.com/an-introduction-to-betfair-api-and-how-to-use-it-e3cdbd79c94b
I have been able to reproduce what "Jamie Blair" (author of the above link) did using python and Visual Studio Code - but I don't really know how to take the next step.
I will be connecting to an MS SQL DB, which I have managed to do, and I will perform as much of the logic as I can in T-SQL (as I am perfectly comfortable with this).
I need help with the following defs (by help I mean someone to do it so I can copy), no doubt there will be other defs I will need too ...
1) Find next horse race, football match, whatever
2) Find the runners / teams etc.
3) get current odds, and form data - sort by whatever metric I choose, e.g. handicap weight, last result, current odds
4) place bet
5) retrieve result after the event (i.e. the profit loss) <- this is made slightly more complex because it has to allow for the possibility of an event being voided (e.g. "rain stopped play" or a horse pulling out of the race at the last moment).
You will need to have a betfair account to do this (as I am obviously not giving you my details), I suspect you can open it with just £10 or so. (If you look online you will probably be able to find a "new customer sign-up bonus".
Many people use the betfair api, some for their own, personal use (as I will) and some that do it for commercial reasons - you may have better luck finding help online that I have ...
For anyone who is unfamiliar with the betfair api this may seem like a lot to do, but for anyone who knows it well I suspect this is a very simple task.
Note: I would have preferred to chose an hourly-rate, but the Ts & Cs suggest I could get really stung with this route, so I have chosen a fixed-price amount.
