Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the business: Medical
Kind of development: New program from scratch
Description of requirements/functionality: Build an Android Media Player that starts and pauses a film based on receiving a keyboard input or not. App should be looking for that input in 3 second cycles.
If it receives an input the film plays. If it does not receive an input the film pauses.
Specific technologies required: Android
OS requirements: Linux, Other
Extra notes: We need to develop a bespoken Android media player to be used on 10.1" tablets for medical patients undertaking physiotherapy treatment.
We capture patient movement on our own hardware and convert that movement into a keystroke (UP arrow). If the patient is moving a film should play. If the patient stops moving (or really slows down) the film pauses.
The overall concept is that the media player should be looking for keyboard UP keystroke during 3 second cycles. If it receives a keystroke the film continues to play. If it doesn't receive one the film pauses waiting for the next input then starts again.
Scope:
(a) To play MP4 HD movies with maximum duration of 15 mins each. Films will be stored on SD card. On app boot Player must default to SD library to allow selection without complicated navigation.
(b) A Bluetooth or wireless keyboard dongle will be connected to the tablet. Our proprietary hardware feeds that dongle necessary keystroke input. The app needs to read how many UP keystrokes detected every 3 seconds and either play or pause the film.
From a developer's POV he/she will just be dealing with receiving (or not receiving) an Up arrow keystroke.
(c) Film starts at Pause awaiting to receive input.
(d) When app receives first UP arrow keystroke the movie plays at normal speed.
(e) If no input is received in any 3 second period movie pauses awaiting input. In an ideal world we would like the movie to slow down gradually rather than stop abruptly, (but we can live with a simple pause if we need to).
This is an URGENT development. We have already developed a Windows version using the VLC player API (and that works fine) - but Android rules the roost now!
We are happy to look at anything with a pretty, minimalist skin and that does the job it needs to do.
