Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the app: The app will display full screen images sourced from RSS feeds
Kind of development: New app from scratch
Description of every page/module: Use Description
The Devices will be distributed by courier to key personnel with an activated SIM and data. When the Device is powered up, the App will start immediately. Ideally a ‘welcome screen’ image will briefly display, to cover for any processing and initial downloading time. The App will firstly check for internet connectivity and proceed if it is available.
The App will simply display, full screen, a series of images for a variety of defined durations.
The image media to display will be defined in one or more RSS feeds hosted online, where the image media itself will also be hosted. The image media will be in either PNG or JPEG format. Each image will be the same pixel dimension as the screen. Images are to be downloaded locally for display.
An XML Config File (also hosted online), will define the one or more RSS feeds, along with the duration (in seconds) for an image from that feed to be displayed on the Device.
The App will step through the RSS feeds listed in the Config, displaying a single image from each feed for the duration of time associated with that feed.
The RSS Feeds will have one or more media items, and may have a different number of items. When the last item in a RSS feed is displayed, the App compares the feed online for any changes. If there are no changes, it steps through the RSS Feed again from the first item. If there are changes, the image media from the new RSS Feed is downloaded locally and displayed in rotation.
Description of requirements/features: Generic Android application source code and compiled package for deployment. Delivery of application may be through an enterprise MDM – so require both signed and unsigned packages.
- Manage internet connectivity
- Manage app updates
- Manage screen orientation
- Parse and compare RSS feeds
- Download, and locally manage image files
- Full screen image display
Please see attachment for full details.
Specific technologies required: For 'Alcatel Pixi 3 (7) 3G' devices, Android 4.4 Kitkat
Extra notes: We would like to start immediately, and aim to be able to test the first app iteration during the of week August 10th. The overall project deadline is August 21st.
