Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
We require an experienced Shopify 2.0 theme developer to build a custom JSON blog template using modular Liquid sections. This is for a luxury eCommerce store and must include responsive CSS and product integration. The template must be built directly within Shopify 2.0 and must not rely on page builders or external apps.
This is not a cosmetic adjustment. We require a properly structured Shopify 2.0 JSON template built using clean Liquid sections.
Only developers with proven experience building custom Shopify blog templates using JSON templates and Liquid should apply. You must provide examples of previous Shopify 2.0 custom blog template work. Applications without relevant examples will not be considered.
Project Overview:
We are creating a premium editorial blog layout for a luxury interiors eCommerce brand. The template must feel high-end, spacious and editorial, while supporting long-form SEO content (1,000–2,000 words), product integration and strong performance.
This template will form part of our long-term SEO and authority strategy.
Technical Requirements:
• Built within Shopify 2.0 theme
• Separate JSON blog template (must not overwrite default blog template)
• Modular Liquid sections with toggleable blocks
• Clean semantic HTML
• No page builder apps
• No heavy external scripts
Suggested file name: blog.downton-journal.json
Structural Requirements:
Hero section – full width responsive image with clean spacing and proper mobile scaling.
Article header – large serif headline, centre aligned, clean spacing, date/category styling, single H1 per page, max width approx. 900–1100px.
Introduction block – slightly enhanced paragraph styling and improved line height.
Main content area – narrow centred text column, proper H2/H3 hierarchy, strong vertical spacing rhythm, ability to insert images between sections. No boxed containers, heavy borders or shadow styling. Must feel premium and editorial.
“Shop This Look” block – dynamic 4-product grid, manually selectable per article, clean minimal styling, optional toggle.
Optional collection highlight block – image, short text and soft CTA.
FAQ accordion – expand/collapse with structured FAQ schema (JSON-LD), optional per article.
Related articles – auto-display 3 posts, clean grid, lightweight styling, no performance impact.
Image Handling (Critical):
All images must automatically resize within the content container, scale proportionally, maintain aspect ratio, be fully responsive, stack correctly on mobile and require no manual CSS resizing. No hard-coded widths.
Each article will contain 1 hero image and typically 3–5 supporting images (4–6 total). The layout must support this cleanly.
Usability Requirements:
After delivery, a non-technical user must be able to add text, insert images, assign products, add FAQs and publish without touching code. The backend must be intuitive and require no developer involvement for future posts.
SEO & Performance:
• Correct H1 usage
• Proper heading hierarchy
• Clean HTML output
• Mobile-first responsive
• No messy inline styling
• No unnecessary JavaScript
• No bloated CSS
• No theme performance degradation
What We Do Not Want:
Default Shopify blog layout, page builder apps, over-designed boxed layouts, fixed image sizing or theme-breaking edits.
Required in Your Response:
• Examples of Shopify 2.0 custom blog templates you have built
• Confirmation of experience with JSON templates and Liquid
• Explanation of how you will handle responsive images
• Timeline
• Clear cost breakdown
If you cannot provide previous Shopify blog template examples, please do not tender.
After completion, you must provide a short 5–10 minute screen recording (or written guide) explaining how to use the template, including adding text, images, products and FAQs.
We are prepared to stretch budget for the right developer. Quality, structure and clean implementation are critical.

Hi Shaun,
Which Shopify 2.0 theme are you currently using?
Do you already have a design reference/style guide for the editorial layout?
