Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Looking for an estimate on an Ecommerce website that will sell local meat. The items would be sold by weight, not quantity. However the meat is cut when the order comes in, so the exact weight is not available until the order is placed.
The requirements are for the customer to add what they want to the cart and checkout with an estimate of their total. It will only be an estimate, as the exact weight is unknown at that time. They will enter the credit card information at this time as well. However, the customer's card will not be billed at that time.
Instead the business will cut and weigh the meat, then update the order with the accurate weight totals for each item. This will change the estimated weight to exact and that will update the order total to the actual total order amount. Once the order is updated by the business, the credit card will be billed for this accurate amount. This needs to be done without having to contact the customer for the payment information. Also, an email needs to be sent to the customer letting them know their order is ready for pickup.
I know the functionality is possible, as grocery stores have this functionality here in the USA. As an example, you can see the link below where it shows an estimated cost of the item. But depending on the package of chicken they pick, the weight changes so therefore the charge for that item changes.
