Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 1 - 6 months
The aim is to simulate the dispersal of plant species and generate multiple distributions based on different parameters. The simulations can be undertaken in python or R. Configuring the RangeShifterR R package is preferred.
• Geographic extent: Australia
• Single and multiple introductions near ports/urban areas along the coast
• Simulate a combination of short and long-term dispersal based on climate suitability (and landscape)
• Annual dispersal with various iteration/years (50, 100, 200 and 500)
• Multiple distributions (100 simulations per parameter)
Working steps
1. Define method, data and tools: short report, this can be done in a brainstorming discussion (30%)
2. Simulate dispersal: R (or other) script, input data, output modelled distributions (simulation ID, long, lat, year) and simulation parameters and description (50%)
3. Short report for results and method (20%)
Preliminary simulation parameters
• Identified R package (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ecog.05689) and tutorial (https://rangeshifter.github.io/RangeshiftR-tutorials/tutorial_1.html)
• Number of introductions and introduction loci per year/time
• Establishment and survival rate
• Dispersal distance and direction
• Use well-documented species Cakile edentula
Questions and discussions are welcome.
