Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 1 - 2 weeks
Hello, I'm Dan
I like to think I'm pretty good at WordPress development. I've been creating themes and plugins from scratch for 15 years now.
I run a successful specialist WP agency in the UK, and things are really busy. I've got work booked for a few months now, and I need some developer help.
I've had developers before, both freelance and employed. Whilst I am looking to employ a UK-based remote developer, for now, I'm looking for a freelancer or two.
I'm doing all of the technical work at the moment, and I have a new account manager who helps me look after communicating with clients. I'm now looking for a freelancer to help me with the time-consuming tasks of creating themes.
If you've got experience creating plugins and writing code too, I really want to hear from you.
You'd be working with me during a project, and I'll be available for a block of time each day so you can ask questions, and I can guide you to get the project sorted.
If we work together, all projects will be posted on People Per Hour to make use of their payment system.
What I am looking for:
- A real person. Someone who I can check in with each day during projects
- Someone who can ask for help, and own up to making mistakes
- Someone willing to learn, follow my help from code reviews and feedback
- You're experienced with WordPress, and you know how to create a WP theme from scratch
- You speak English fluently. You don't need to be based in the UK, but UK or Europe is my preference due to timezones.
- You have professional indemnity insurance (I have a contact who can help if you need)
- You love creating themes
You either know or willing to learn:
- How to test a new website on different browsers with a tool like BrowserStack
- How to use Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) to create content settings
- How to create custom post types and taxonomies using code (not plugins)
- How to use the pre_get_posts filter to change post behaviour
- How to use caching (or to create caching) to ensure the website doesn't slow down
- How to use SASS, Bootstrap, write custom jQuery, and WP ajax queries
- How to create custom themes and child themes, along with template overrides
- How to use CodeKit, and gulp
Ideally:
- You develop on a Mac, so you can use the CodeKit
- You've created plugins before and you know your way around PHP OOP and simple PHP classes
What I'm not looking for:
- An external agency who does outsourced development
To help me get an idea if we could be a good match, here's an example potential project I'd like you to quote for:
Website: https://businessghost.co.uk/
Project: To convert this to WordPress from Concrete 5, with a few adjustments. Theme is to be created using my WordPress framework. You'd need to copy all of the content to a fresh WP installation, use ACF where we agree, and build the theme using CSS/JS/SASS (there's not much JS on this one).
This is the child theme (parent theme not included) - as a skeleton theme: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tvzabr5lyv122fw/wpdrs-foundation-child.zip?dl=1
I'd like to know:
- How much you'd quote me for this project (I've set an amount, but this is arbitrary, as I want real estimates please).
- How long you think it'd take
- If you're full-time freelancing, or working around a job
- Where you're based
Thank you!
Dan
