Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the business: Specialist food producer
Kind of development: New program from scratch
Description of requirements/functionality: For the right person/group/company this is a great opportunity to design and develop a web based system. This system will initially be built with one client’s needs in mind but could later be offered to many client. Each client would have specific needs, therefore this system could offer you a source of long-term work.
The system required is to help a small food manufacturer monitor product traceability through their full manufacturing and despatch processes. To achieve this, we expect the system will need to maintain and use the data types that include:
• Raw material data
• Semi-finished goods data
• Finished goods data
• Production process data
• Despatch data
• Inspections data
• Customer data
• System user data
• Barcode data
The system will need to maintain a number of key “rules” including:
• Process integrity rules
• User system access rules
• Customer system access rules
• Barcode allocation rules
• Inspections rules
Key functions within the system will include:
• Production process entry – recording the use of specific raw and semi-finished products to create semi-finished and finished products. Barcode scanning and allocation will be required here as well as recording of specific process information (eg date, time, temperature, weights, etc)
• Inspections – there are required to be regular inspections of products and the manufacturing facilities. The system must report when these inspections are due and must record the inspection outcomes (eg biological data, temperatures, inspector details, etc)
• Barcode lookup – system users and end customers will be able to scan barcodes to be provided with information on that raw material/semi-finished/finished product. This information must include the processes and raw materials etc that were used to manufacture this item. The data provided must vary depending on system access rules.
• Reporting – system data must be able to be accessed by authorised users in such a way that they can monitor the overall production process and be immediately alerted to any potential problems.
• Data entry – for all system data, including the ability to modify data, all will suitable access controls
The system must be web based to accommodate access from many different locations. Customers must be able to access data through the manufacturer’s website. Many processes will need to be supported by barcode scanners and/or printers that directly link to the system. The system will also need to take input from equipment such as “smart scales” that will allow the quick entry of incoming raw material weights etc.
We would like to approach this project in two main phases:
• Design – producing a full specification of what the system will do and how it will do it
• Development – building and implementing the system.
We need you to provide a fixed price for the design phase and an estimated price for development. Each of these prices must be supported by an explanation of how you have derived that price and, for the development price, we need an explanation of what factors will cause the price to increase/reduce.
We will need you to undertake this project as representatives of our organisation. You are likely to have direct contact with the end client and we require you to be professional and to look after our best interests at all times. We, and the client, are in the UK and face to face meetings may be necessary. The client has insisted that all individuals involved in this project must be based in the UK.
I can provide further detail and documentation about this project and am available to discuss the project further with you. Send me your email address and phone number and I will contact you.
