Description
Experience Level: Expert
A client has supplied me a 3D file of an oil rig complex, and I'm looking to convert it to a format I can use for visualisation purposes in 3ds Max.
The file has been provided in Navisworks (.nwd) and .(dwf) formats, and Ideally I'd like the file to be optimised and converted to any standard 3D modelling format (e.g. .3DS, .obj, .fbx, .dae, .ipt, .max, .stl). I'll be importing it into 3DS Max and Blender to create an animation.
In the past I have exported from Navisworks to fbx, and then imported to 3DS max and used ProOptimise feature to reduce the poly count, although with the complexity of this model my PC is struggling to achieve this.
Ideally the end use file should be around 150MB - 1GB, and if it is necessary to export each individual platform as separate files that's fine - I don't mind compositing myself afterwards.
As I'm using the file for visualisation purposes the aim is to lose as little detail as possible while keeping the file size within the limits mentioned. As some optimisation may be required I'm happy to discuss with you how this should happen. Smaller details such as nuts and bolts etc. can go, but I'd like to keep the overall structure intact.
Let me know if you can help, and I will share the file with you,
Kind regards,
James

Hey, do you have any attached files?
James C.26 Nov 2019Hi there, I have uploaded the files to a secure link, can you PM me? Thanks

Hi James,
Are you able to get the client to export to any different files types, or can you only use the files they have already provided?
ThanksJames C.26 Nov 2019Hi there, have asked but their client in turn has only been able to get Navisworks.
Andrew W.26 Nov 2019Thanks
Could you share the file?
