Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
We are an international events management and publication company, with a predominant focus on the transportation sector, in particular light and urban rail systems.
Our leading monthly journal, Tramways & Urban Transit, is now in it’s 75th year and is devoted entirely to developments and innovation in the light and urban rail industries (tramways, metro systems and monorail) worldwide.
Reaching an audience of over 8000 readers – including senior figures at transport ministries and public transport operators and CEOs – TAUT delivers the most comprehensive and up-to-date project updates, tender and contract news and system development news as well as opinion and interviews with key figures within the industry.
The job
We are currently working with a local authority in Morocco, to produce a bespoke publication on a new tramway system, as part of our agreement, we are looking to liaise directly with the principal companies involved with the project – i.e. construction companies, manufacturers and suppliers.
Many of these are French-speaking organisations, and herein lies our enquiry.
We are looking for a professional linguist on a short-term contract, either remote working or from our offices nr Oundle and Peterborough to assist our operation by making initial telephone communication with these organisations(approx 50 companies). You will need to explain the outline proposal of the publication and either:
1.
Ascertain the correct person to speak to within these organisations, and then speak to that person and advise that we are working with the local authority on this special publication. We ask that you then obtain appropriate contact details (email address) in order to write to them directly and provide all further information.
2.
Should the appropriate person not be available, obtain appropriate contact details (email address) and email relevant literature.
Hopefully, having made contact with the 50 or so supply chain companies, (all of which will be supplied to you on an Excel spreadsheet, to include company names and contact numbers), we would ask that you keep an up to date record of the contacts for each business as you go along (contact name and email address).
Moving forward, we would then ask that you write to all parties concerned via email outlining the said proposal, translating a set template.
As we speak, the project is in its final commissioning phase before opening to the public on the 12/12/12.
Of course, we hope that the companies you have communicated with will come back with a response and it’s likely that additional communication will be required thereafter to translate and reply to any enquiries you may receive.
Tramways & Urban Transit is increasingly working with overseas clients on the production of these ‘one-off’ publications on a variety of projects within French speaking countries and have had similar communication issues.
Moving forward, I am certain that the suitable applicant will prove invaluable to our business as we do more and more of these publications.
