We're looking for a skilled researcher to create a list/map of our competitors - direct and indirect, plus delving into the detail further to study our competition, figuring out what they do well (and what they do poorly), so we can apply best practices to our own business & learn from the mistakes of others.
We'd like to start with our positioning, compiling a list of who is bigger, who might be our peer, and who is smaller.
For each of the business, we would like to compile an intel list containing:
Basic info
How long has this business been around?
How many employees do they have?
How many locations do they have?
Are they national or strictly local?
How are they advertising?
How many customers/bookings/training days do they get in a day, week, or month?
Core competencies
What is their main offering?
What do they charge for their main offering?
How quickly can they offer service?
What are their upsells to drive additional revenue?
What equipment/people is/are needed for their main offering vs. their upsells?
Are we capable of delivering a similar quality service/product?
What upsells can we emulate?
What can we offer that they can't?
Customer service
What do they offer?
What are they like on the phone?
If you left a message did they call back, and if so, how did they sound on the phone?
Do they have reviews online - if so, where and what are the ratings?
Anything in the reviews that we should do/avoid doing?
Is there anything they do that is different?
What is their website like - anything we can emulate?
Do they sell direct online?
Is the website easy to navigate?
Any other areas you think are relevant
We need someone to have direct experience in this type of reasearch so please provide examples of previous research completed.
