Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: less than 1 week
We need help to draw polygons and add an ID attribute for cemetery plots. You will draw the plots from a high-res aerial image and a design grid in Excel.
We need to add a PlotID attribute that is determined from the Excel grid (see image 3). The ID follows a sequential pattern and can be automated with some care.
The polygons do not need to be a perfect trace of the headstones. Instead the preference is to find the balance between accuracy and functionality. A neat polygon grid looks nicer and is easier to browse then a grid that bends or is occasionally crooked to follow the headstones. This makes the job easier for you. We still want the polygons to align 95% with the aerial imagery.
The end user is the cemetery manager and general public. We will use the Plot IDs to relate the plot to the official records using our custom built online GIS software. People will use your work to manage their cemetery and locate loved ones.
There are less then 8,000 to 10,000 plots to trace and another section of 5,000 plots to add based on a CAD design that we already have. Typically this job would take us about a week with an inexperienced GIS operator. I expect that an experienced operator with some clever tricks would be able to complete it in 3 days.
I will share a detailed video and examples of a finished product via private message.

HI, do the polygons need to be of equal size?
