Marketing Tracking & Attribution Specialist
(Google Tag Manager / HubSpot / Zapier)
Fractional / Ad-Hoc Contractor
Overview
We are looking for a Marketing Tracking & Attribution Specialist to help improve and maintain the tracking infrastructure across our marketing and CRM systems.
Our business generates inbound leads through Google Ads and landing pages, which flow through HubSpot CRM and Zapier automations.
We need someone who can ensure that tracking is accurate from click to CRM, allowing ad platforms to optimise for high-quality leads rather than just form submissions.
This is not a full-time role. We are looking for a highly competent specialist available on an ad-hoc basis to help diagnose issues, implement improvements, and maintain tracking reliability.
⸻
Core Objective
Ensure accurate attribution and conversion tracking from ad click to CRM, enabling ad platforms to optimise for high-value leads and correct business types.
⸻
Key Responsibilities
Tracking Implementation
• Implement and maintain Google Tag Manager tracking setup
• Configure Google Ads conversion tracking and enhanced conversions
• Ensure Google Click ID (GCLID) tracking is captured correctly
• Validate tracking across multi-page landing pages and forms
⸻
CRM & Automation Integration
Ensure marketing data flows correctly between systems:

Zapier automations
↓
Google Ads conversion tracking
This includes ensuring the correct passing of:
• GCLID
• UTM parameters
• Lead attributes (e.g. business type)
• Conversion values
⸻
Conversion Value Optimisation
Assist with implementing value-based conversion tracking, where conversions are sent back to Google Ads based on lead quality.
Example:
• higher value leads assigned higher value
• lower value leads assigned reduced value
• ad platforms optimise accordingly
⸻
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Identify and resolve issues such as:
• missing click IDs
• broken GTM triggers
• conversion discrepancies
• multi-page tracking failures
• HubSpot property mapping errors
• Zapier data flow problems
⸻
Example Tasks
Typical work might include:
• Debugging GCLID capture across landing page forms
• Setting up GTM event tracking for form submissions
• Ensuring HubSpot stores tracking parameters correctly
• Passing lead values through Zapier back to Google Ads
• Verifying conversion accuracy between platforms
⸻
Tech Stack
Experience with the following tools is important:
• Google Tag Manager
• Google Ads conversion tracking
• HubSpot CRM
• Zapier automation
• UTM and click-ID tracking
Bonus experience:
• Enhanced conversions
• GA4 event tracking
• multi-step form tracking
• server-side tracking
⸻
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
• has implemented tracking systems for lead generation businesses
• understands how ad platforms optimise based on conversion data
• can quickly diagnose and resolve tracking issues
• is comfortable working across GTM, CRM and automation tools
This role suits someone who already works as a freelance tracking specialist or marketing engineer.
⸻
Engagement
• Ad-hoc / project based work
• Typical work likely 5–10 hours per month
• Occasional setup projects
Potential for ongoing collaboration as the business grows.
⸻
How to Apply
Please include:
• examples of tracking systems you have implemented
• experience with HubSpot and Google Ads tracking
• any experience implementing value-based conversion tracking

Hey Jason, could you confirm whether you want a one-off diagnostic/fix sprint first or ongoing ad-hoc support, and which issue is the top priority right now: GCLID capture, HubSpot mapping, Zapier passback, or Google Ads value-based conversion tracking?
