Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are currently setting up an online furniture store, starting with sofas.
The initial role is for a logo, but we will certainly require further work. Following on from the logo design, we will require branding, and potentially stationary etc, too.
We are looking to sell modern, and stylish sofas that fit in with the 21st century. We are specialising in a material that is called 'Microfibre' that is the highest grade of 'faux-leather' - It is better than some of the lower quality 'real' leathers out there.
A website for reference is made.com.
And now for the brief:
The logo needs to be clean, and almost minimalist in design. I imagine it with clear typography in black, with a touch of colour (with the colour being either as a symbol, or ideally abstract uses of it near the text)
The way I imagine it in my head, is 5 colours in the shape of dots/strokes/splashes near/on/around the text.
The colour needs to also be produced separately, as it will be used intermittently around the website, and on stationary. In essence, the colour will be used as a streamlined version of the logo at times, and also with the full logo.
A little more about the colour:
We are looking to sell five different ranges of sofas, and each of these colours will represent a specific range. I have not set into stone what the colours should be, but here is a guide:
Comfortable - Yellow?
Audacious - Red?
Relaxing - Blue?
Formal - Brown?
Unique - Green?
Of course, I am open to suggestions!
The target market of the brand will be the following three demographics:
Cosmopolitan - Tend to be those living/working professionally who actively choose to lead a ‘metropolitan’ or ‘city’ lifestyle. Involved in an active social life (Such as house gatherings etc), as well as a secondary interest in current trends/fashions. Most likely to live in smaller apartment blocks (hence the need for smaller furniture) and have an active interest in the style of their interiors.
First time Buyers - are more likely to live in ‘New Builds’ and leasehold apartments which are smaller in scope to terraced homes. First time buyers are often the most price sensitive. The unique features of microfiber, including its resistance to staining make this demographic ideal for our brand.
Millennials - quite a subjective and broad term, as it covers a demographic aged between 17 – 35. This overarching demographic is a tertiary one who are more comfortable with making purchases online, and tend to use mobile more often.
A little about the brand attributes:
Very Progressive over conservative
Very Indoors over outdoors
Very Comfortable over anxious
Quite Fashionable over practical
Quite Casual over professional
Quite Personable over stoic
Slightly Outspoken over reserved
Slightly Playful over serious
Slightly Dynamic over Stable
We're not looking for an overly elaborate design, but rather something muted - With the use of colour bringing it to life.
The font must be clean, balancing legibility and fashion
A touch of professionalism, without coming across as 'corporate'
A clear sense of muted/subtle style (An oxymoron, I know!)
Minimalist (for clarity)
The colour is to showcase personality
Reflecting between playfulness and personality, whilst balancing this with the more serious traits of the brand.
Many of you are great at design, but I feel to succeed here, you would require a natural 'style' that is clear and minimalist in nature, with a good eye for colour.
I intend on keeping this job open for as long as possible, as there is no rush on the start date.
If there is anything you would like clarifying, please feel free to ask and I welcome constructive criticism over the brief. We have several company name permutations.
The consultation on offer is just as (if not, more so!) important as the design, as is being the right fit.
I haven’t fixed a price, as I am no design expert - Do you feel I’d benefit from something such as a mood board etc?
I would like the following from your proposal:
What are you offering?
Do you have a favoured process from proposal through to delivery?
What would you need from me?
A fixed price based on the above
Whilst I will take a look at your portfolio, I understand that this is a reflection of the past, not what you ‘can’ do. I would welcome a mock-up just to take a look at something similar if your portfolio doesn't reflect accordingly. Please demonstrate it if this is something you would like to work on - Your passion and enthusiasm can make up for where you may lack in other factors.
I have asked for an expert, as this needs doing properly - But I welcome proposals from those who feel they have the talent and know-how, yet may not have the portfolio to match.
I hope that's everything, and I look forward to being creatively challenged!!!
