Description
Experience Level: Expert
Deliverable
A logo design that can be used in the following formats / variants:
• General use, including business cards etc
• Use in website headers (i.e. not square and easily readable)
• Square/round variant for us in social media profiles
• As a watermark
Business Name: Bernard Pretorius Photography
Business Background
I am a photographer that has slowly built up my business over the years. The main focus of my business until recently was wedding photography, however I am looking to shift the focus away from weddings and put landscape and aerial photography more front and centre (in particular selling framed prints via an online shop, and hopefully in the future open my own local gallery)
I started my business in London, and also worked full time as a wedding photographer around the Greek islands for a couple of years. I have very recently relocated to Sydney and looking to establish my brand and business here.
Target Audience
My target audience would be people that value photography and appreciate the effort and quality that goes into my work. I offer sophisticated and luxury products, and need my brand to reflect this.
Re-branding and new logo
• I am by no means a design or marketing expert, and these are just my random thoughts - which may be out of date and cliché. These thoughts are not restrictive and I am very open to suggestions. At the end of the day what I am ultimately after is a logo and watermark which are elegant, simple and modern and draw in the right clientele that want to invest in quality artwork.
• I need a logo / brand with longevity that would still be relevant in a few years' time
• I need a set of logos / branding that can work in various shapes and formats - across my website, square and round social media icons, on business cards and a watermark. I don't necessarily feel they all need to look exactly the same (especially logo vs watermark), but there needs to be consistency and common thread
• Especially for the watermark I like the idea of a signature, to look more like the sign of an artist and bring my images across as artwork. Below are two links to what I mean. The one thing that concerns me about the signature is that they are sometimes hard to read, i.e. it may be hard for someone to identify the image as mine (and make their way to my website) if they randomly come across it on the internet or elsewhere.

• I kind of like the concept of the attached example, with a mix of a signature and a drawing of a mountain landscape. When it comes to imagery in the logo, I definitely do not want anything cliché or obviously linked to photography like a camera, or shutter
• Personally, I love water, the ocean and beaches, I was wondering if something related to that may work - maybe abstract waves or something? This could tie in with the more landscape nature of my images, however I do not want to alienate wedding clients.
• In terms of colouring I like the elegance of simple black and white, or a fresh look with whites and blues. I do like a nautical theme of white and navy too, but feel that the navy may be lost in certain media and come across more as black?
