Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Information for the business: Transportation trade magazine
Industry: Publishing/Journalism
Design details: Hi, I am looking to start a brand new magazine aimed at van drivers in the South East of England. I'm more than happy to compose the content and advise on 'feel' but I can't make it look professional on my own. Also we might need to create professional looking adverts - we want to give certain companies the chance to advertise for free in the first addition. I'm currently using some software provided by blurb.com but it's fiddly and I don't really know what I'm doing. When the magazine is ready we'll probably send it to a printers to get 1000 copies made in the first run and it will go online somewhere. Also 'social media' awareness a bonus.
Target audience: Men 20-50 who drive vans in South East England
Number of pages needed: 20 or more
Ideas for the visual style: Top Gear Magazine
Things to avoid: Looks like a leaflet
Preferred colors: Bright on Dark
Where the design will be used: Both print and internet
Extra notes:

You are going to get murdered on hourly fees. You just end up paying for bad work, slow designer, inexperienced designers and the dishonest who bump their fees. No magazine is ever designed by hourly fees.
Plus a first edition will take three times as long as any subsequent issues -
Hello James,
Is it possible to do flat fees rather than hourly?
Alex.
