Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: 1 - 6 months
Design details: A children's paperback book for self publications. Story set out over 24 page spread. Will also require front and back cover, plus assistance with typesetting and advice on layout, where to insert page breaks etc...
Target audience: Children, 5 - 8
Number of pages needed: 24 page spread
Ideas for the visual style: A lot of the humour in this book will come from the images. I imagine illustrations such as those in The Tiger Who Came To Tea but am open to other styles.
Where the design will be used: Print
Extra notes: What would you do if you found an elephant sitting on your bed? That’s the dilemma facing the young boy in my book, Arthur and the Elephant.
Do you think you could illustrate it?
In writing this story I was greatly inspired by Penguin (Polly Dunbar), Lost and Found (Oliver Jeffers) and Biscuit Bear (Mini Grey). These books I felt captured perfectly what I was trying to represent. I wanted to create a situation that was firmly rooted in the life of children as well as being delightfully surreal. I started with the idea of the elephant joke – How do you know there’s an elephant in the bath with you? By the smell of peanuts on his breath – and worked from there.
If you are interested in this project, please respond using the following headings. Any responses that doesn't meet the format will not be looked at.
I anticipate the story will be set across a 24 page spread.
1. Your qualifications and experience
2. A piece of artwork that represents you and is of a style that would be suitable for this project
3. How we would work together? What I can expect from you?
4. How long the project would take?
5. How much it would cost?
6. Anything else you can provide such as typestetting, advice on layout, page breaks, etc...
