Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Industry: Healthcare
Design details: This is a re-post of a previous job. We selected someone but in the end they weren't able to animate the two different parts of this animation at the same time. They were a 3D artist with only limited experience of animation. So we're advertising again but this time we've slightly increased the maximum amount we are willing to spend to £570 (this other person had offered to do the job for a fair bit less).
There is one other change we've made which is that we would like the animation to be about 20 seconds long (rather than 15 seconds), with a minimum of 15 seconds and maximum of 25 seconds.
In short, we would like to get a 20-second 3D animation made to show how our main product helps correct scoliosis in patients. It would involve the individual parts of our seating system coming together to form a seat, then a graphical representation of a patient appearing, with parts of the seat moving to correct the spinal curvature. There wouldn't be any narration.
We would like the animated person to have a translucent body, so that you can see the body but also their spine. Have a look at the following Wikipedia page on scoliosis to find out more about scoliosis but also to see a great example of the sort of image we're thinking of for the person (at the top of the page):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/scoliosis
This work would be done remotely but we would want to have one or two conversations over Skype to make sure that the freelancer and ourselves had the same things in mind regarding what was going to be produced.
This is a link to one of the relevant pages on our website, although our main product is currently undergoing some improvements, as is our website:
http://www.matrixseating.com/matrix-introduction-specialised-wheelchair-seats.php
This animation must look professional and be first class. It would be on the home page and one of the first things that people would see. Also, as this is a new version of our main product, we may need a Non-Disclosure Agreement being signed before the work could start. With this in mind, you may need to be based in the UK.
Due to the time we've lost, once we've selected someone, had a Skype conversation and handed over files and photos, we will then need to set a written deadline of three weeks for the completion of this project.
There a couple of positive things I wanted to mention: firstly, over the next few months we want to get at least three or four animations made to do with our products, so there is potentially more work for the right person; and secondly, this animation would be front and centre on our site (and on a much better-looking site we hope) so would be something you could refer to as work you had done, plus of course it could be part of your portfolio.
I will be happy to answer any questions you may have (but please allow up to 24 hours for me to get back to you).

Ideas for the visual style: 3D animation
Extra notes: PS. I think what made this animation difficult was being able to animate both our product and the person at the same time. This might not be an issue to an experienced animator, but if you are a 3D artist with only a limited amount of experience of animation, you are still welcome to put in a proposal but you need to seriously ask yourself whether you will actually be able to create this. We won't be selecting someone for at least a week after posting this job.
Potential storyboard of what would be in the animation:
- Video would start with individual Matrix "4-ball" (new version but would look similar to graphic created in Fusion 360 in top left of every page on our site) along with Matrix "clamp" (again, new version but would look similar to the two different types in photos on our site).
- Two parts would come together and then more and more of the same parts would appear, added on to the first two, until a complete flat sheet was in view.
- This flat sheet would then curve at the sides to form a "seat".
- A graphical representation of a person would then appear in the seat.
- This person would either start off opaque and become translucent or be translucent to start with. This is to show their spine and the curvature that we're trying to help reduce.
- Part of one side of the seat would move in to push the person's spine to straighten it.
- Then the video could end like that or the person could become opaque again.
