Design details: Hello. I Just bought a home that was built in 1909. It's a two story Victorian style home that needs a lot of work. My plan for downstairs is to make it a completely open floorplan. Right now, you walk into the home and you instantly see a very narrow staircase that I hate and would like to widen. There are also divided rooms that I want to open up.
There is a double sided coal burning fireplaces in the first two rooms. I would like to keep those exposed while having a space underneath the staircase for the closet that is already there as well as a full bathroom. Behind the bathroom towards the back of the house, I want a space for a standard 151 1/2 in X 97 1/2 in room that will be used as a office, followed by a nice laundry/mudroom with backyard access.
Towards the back of the house, is a section that I believe was used as a sunroom. I would like to extend the rear interior wall into that space and make that new area all kitchen space. I have attached a illustration to show you the dimensions.
At the front of the house I would like it to be the dining room, followed by the living room in that order.
Upstairs, the layout will pretty much stay as it is now. The only exception is that I want to make the master bed and bathroom bigger by shifting the current sizes of the rooms that are already in place. Once that is done, I would like to have a full size master bath (if possible), a full size master bedroom that could comfortably fit a king size bed, and a walk in closet (if possible).
I would like to have built-in closets in all of the other bedrooms where space allows.
If you feel that you have space, and could add some extra unique rooms or features to the home, please feel free. It is a very old home, in a historical neighborhood, so our plan is to have some historical aspects to the home, while also incorporating some modernized aspects as well.
On the exterior, we would like to go with a soft gray color. With the porch, the current width is 94 1/2 in. and I want to bring it out to 108 in. The actual porch is currently made out of cinder blocks. We would like to redo the porch with a nice brick color that will compliment the exterior color of the house with also adding a semi abbreviated wrap around porch that connects to a privacy fence that will run to the back of the house.
I also have all of the wall measurements from window to window.
Thank you again, and I look forward to speaking with you.
Ideas for the visual style: A mixture of of traditional with modern
Preferred colors: Blues, grays,
Extra notes:
